Three minors suspected to be involved in case of cellphone theft were brought handcuffed to a police station in MP’s Betul district, before being strip searched and beaten by cops on Saturday evening.
The shocking incident took place at the Bhainsdehi police station, where four persons, including three boys aged between 8 and 12 years, were brought handcuffed to the police station in connection with theft of cellphone at a weekly vegetable market.
The three minors were beaten and verbally abused by cops at the police station, while one of them was even strip searched.
The Bhainsdehi police station in charge NS Chouhan, however, denied charges of brutality with the three minors. “Four suspects were brought to police station and questioned. The stolen cellphone was found from one of them, who is not a minor. Some cash has been recovered from the minors”
I’ve asked for the video clips of the incident to further probe the matter: SP
When contacted in the matter by Hindustan Times on Sunday, the Betul superintendent of police Rakesh Jain said he had come to know about the alleged incident from media persons only. “The four suspects were caught by local residents at the crowded market and handed over to police later on Saturday. As the stolen mobile phone was recovered from one of the suspects who is not a minor, he was booked for the offence and sent to jail. The other three were subsequently released The Bhainsdehi police, however, has told me that neither was any minor handcuffed, beaten or strip searched. Still, I’ve asked for the video clips of the incident to further probe the matter.”
