According to the police, the accused were attending a marriage function near the shop. Post midnight they ran out of alcohol and approached the shop manager for booze. When he refused to open the shop saying it was late, the accused broke the shutters of the shop, damaged several liquor bottles and set the shop ablaze. Two salesmen sleeping inside the shop were burnt alive.

The salesmen, Amrendra Singh and Ram Vilas Yadav, kept crying for help but the mob refused to let them come out, police told reporters. The shop manager, however, managed to escape. Police are yet to identify him.

The shop is owned by Amrendra Singh, a Bihar resident, and Ram Vilas Yadav, Uttar Pradesh resident.

Balaghat superintendent of police, Gaurav Tiwari, said a case of arson and murder has been registered against 15 accused, including Sanjay and Vijay. He added investigation was on in the case and the other accused would be arrested soon.
