In the first incident, Shahbej (15), Mohsin Khan (13) and Faiz (15) had gone to Motiya Talab to take bath with few other friends .

According to information, they entered in the deep waters and started drowning. An auto-rickshaw driver Asif Khan was passing by the place and saw the trio drowning in the lake. He jumped into the lake to save them. He managed to save the life of Faiz. However, he couldn’t save Shahbej and Mohsin.

An eyewitness said a group of 7-8 teenagers had come to take dip but the people present near Taj-ul-Masajid scolded them. After this all the children except the three left the lake. They drowned as there were no divers present on the spot. Later divers were called and they fished out the body of Shahbej and Mohsin.

Two months ago, when five youths died after their boat capsized in the middle of the Lower lake, superintendent of police (SP), north Arvind Saxena had clearly stated that if such incidents happened again, strict action would be taken against authorities.

However, town inspector of Shajehanabad, Narendra Singh Thakur said, “There are many lakes in Bhopal and it’s not possible for Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) to put vigilance at every spot.”

“Generally, children come to take bath in the lake but on Sunday, they entered deep waters. It’s just an accident. No one is responsible so we haven’t booked anyone,” he added.

13-year-old drowns in Kaliasot

In another incident, a 13-year-old Abhijeet Meena drowned in Kaliasot dam while taking bath with two friends.

Abhijeet, who is a newspaper vendor, had gone with Ram and Ramesh to take dip. Abhijeet entered in the deep waters and lost his control. When Ram and Ramesh saw him, they also entered in the water to save him. An engineering student Saksham Sethi was standing there. Sethi jumped into the water and saved Ram and Rajesh. However, Abhijeet couldn’t be saved.

CSP Habibganj, CM Dwivedi said, “It was an accident. Despite being told many times, children go to the dam to take bath.”

Saksham, Asif to be felicitated

Two brave hearts- Saksham Sethi and Asif Khan will be felicitated by police for saving three lives. An engineering student Saksham Sethi, 19, saved the lives of two teenagers, who were drowning in Kaliasot dam. Sethi said when he saw them, he entered in the water without any second thought. “But I am little disappointed too as I failed to save the life of third one,” he added

Asif Khan, 45, who saved the life of a teenager, is also depressed as he couldn’t save the lives of two others, who drowned in Motiya Talab.
