Asin Thottumkal, who announced on Sunday that she has stopped taking up new assignments post her wedding, isn’t the first one to do so in the Hindi film industry. From Nargis to Babita, many leading ladies opted for the home and hearth, post getting hitched. We take a look at some of the most famous heroines who quit their career after getting married.

Twinkle Khanna
Twinkle Khanna, who left the film industry in 2001 after getting hitched to Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, has now turned to writing and interior decoration and has given up acting altogether.
Neetu Singh
The star from the 70s quit acting after tying the knot with Rishi Kapoor in 1980. She began her career with Rikshawala in 1972 and went ahead to be part of super hits like Amar Akbar Anthony and Khel Khel Mein. This popular actor made a comeback opposite her husband recently, after a 26-year-long break, with Love Aaj Kal in 2009 and later did Besharam with her son Ranbir Kapoor.
Meenakshi Sheshadri
Meenakshi Sheshadri, who surprised social media recently when Rishi Kapoor posted her recent picture and asked fans to identify her, quit acting after tying the knot. Twitterati couldn’t recognise her as she had left Bollywood decades ago in 1996 after getting married to investment banker Harish Mysore. She was best known for hits Damini, Ghayal and Hero.
Nargis
The woman who gave us a stellar performance with Mother India, too, gave up her career and chose family after she married co-star Sunil Dutt in 1958. Many of her films released after her wedding, including Raat Aur Din which fetched her the National Award for Best Actor. She began her journey with Tamanna in 1942.
Babita
Babita, who began her career with Dus Lakh in 1966, quit her career on a high note after getting married to Randhir Kapoor in 1971, as the Kapoor family did not want the ‘bahu’ to work. Her elder daughter Karisma, too, quit acting after her wedding but her younger one - Kareena - continues to work even after marriage. Kareena’s Ki and Ka released on April 1.
