It was the complexity of the script that interested Sonali the most.”I took up the play with sheer respect for both Geeta ji and Guru Dutt .It was quite gripping for me to read about his life and how he led it. There were so many rumours, so much failure and depression in the atmosphere around him. I was curious to know how he fought it.”

The multi-faceted National award-winning actor shares that she goes with flow when it comes to choosing projects and says competition as ‘foolish’. “I am quite free spirited. It’s just my instincts that I keep picking up projects and working. I never plan that itne din I will do theatre and itni din films. In films I have been doing Bollywood, regional and International films. Rather than getting overwhelmed or bogged down with time frame and schedule planning, I have decided to keep going with the flow. It’s the only way where you can stop competing with others,” she says.

“If you feel that oh my god, now Priyanka Chopra is doing an International project, I have to do it too. Now somebody else is doing theatre, I have to do it. Somebody is doing film, TV, you feel that why are you behind, you also go judge, act on TV. There is no point in comparing yourself with others. I enjoy my work,” she adds.

Sonali says that she’s in love with the films that are being made today. ‘We are in times where a film like Queen (2014) is made. Lovely film making is happening around us. We have a variety of filmmakers such as Ashutosh Gowariker and Anurag Kashyap at the same time. I feel pretty blessed for being born in these times. Otherwise, people have struggled and struggled to put across their genre. I really liked Masaan (2015), 3 Idiots (2009), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and PK (2014). We are blessed. There is a wide choice for us.”

The actor admits that she has been preoccupied with Marathi projects of late. “My focus was a bit scattered in between as I have been working in a variety of languages. Marathi being my mother tongue,I have been working on quite a lot of Marathi projects. But I am back again and in 2016, as I have something to offer to a global audience,” she signs off.
