“Manyata (Sanjay’s wife) told me that I should make a biopic on him. But honestly, I wasn’t interested because I wasn’t sure what I could show that was not known about Sanju. Then she narrated a couple of incidents that are rare insights and I found them very interesting and fascinating,” Hirani told HT earlier.

When Dutt had come out of jail on parole in between his sentence, he told Hirani a few things without the intention of having a film made. “And when he started narrating, I was like, ‘I know only one per cent about his life despite having worked so much with him.’ It’s an unbelievable story. We aren’t going to glorify anything about him, but just tell a fantastic story,” said Hirani, who has worked with the actor on the super successful Munna Bhai series – Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

Now, as the actor gets out of jail, the 53-year-old film-maker is looking forward to an extensive session with him to finalise the script. He, along with writer Abhijat Joshi, has already worked on multiple drafts of the script but “some of the most crucial parts” of the much-talked-about biopic will be written when the actor is out of jail.

“I have finished few drafts of the script, which I bounced off Sanjay as well, when he was out [on parole] in between. I took into consideration all his inputs, as to where we are wrong or right,” said Hirani.

Aside from the biopic, Sanjay Dutt’s name has been attached to a number of films that have been touted as his big comeback film but there is no official confirmation about any of the films from Dutt’s side.
