Sarbjit quick take: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a loud melodrama
The film is loud as the actors mostly scream to drive home their point. Sarbjit’s appeal will depend on your capacity to take melodrama.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s comeback film Jazbaa failed to recreate her old charm, but Oomung Kumar’s Sarbjit has given her another chance to shine at the box office.
Told from a sister’s perspective, Sarbjit is about the struggles his family did to get him out of the Pakistani jail. Sarabjit was arrested in Pakistan on the pretext of being an Indian spy in 1990, and was killed in a brutal attack inside Kot Lakhpat jail in 2013.

Rai, who is playing Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur in director Omung Kumar’s second biopic after Mary Kom, has been given a lion’s share of screen space, but Randeep Hooda’s physical transformation and Richa Chadda’s fetch the audience’s attention.
In fact, it’s Hooda’s silent crying that impresses the most. His tired and angry eyes talk a lot, and he is aptly supported by Richa.
However, the film is loud as the actors mostly scream to drive home their point. Sarbjit’s appeal will depend on your capacity to deal with melodrama.
