Swara Bhaskar is practising Bharatnatyam again
Swara Bhaskar wants to resume practising Bharatnatyam that she learnt as a child.
Even before making her mark as an actor in Bollywood, Swara Bhaskar was already a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She started learning the dance form at the age of seven, and completed her Arangetram (debut on-stage performance) at 21. However, due to her back-to-back film projects and busy schedule, she hasn’t had enough time to practise the classical dance form in the recent past.
But Swara’s upcoming project presented her with an opportunity to renew her interest in the performing arts, as it has multiple dance sequences. The actor is now inspired to go back to dancing, and has decided to take some time out every day to practise Bharatanatyam.

A source says, “Earlier, she would attend classes thrice a week, but she stopped dancing when her Bharatanatyam guru, Leela Samson, moved to Chennai. She now plans to get in touch with other Bharatanatyam teachers and practitioners in Mumbai, and start dancing.”
When contacted, Swara said, “I love dancing, but I haven’t really got the opportunity to showcase my dancing skills in the movies I’ve done so far. Classical dance is one of the most beautiful forms of artistic expression. It is our cultural heritage. It is part of my childhood and who I am. I want to reconnect with it.”
