The railway station was recently upgraded from Grade B to Grade A following an overall 40% increase in the footfall last year. At a budget of Rs 3.5 crore, the station was renovated with air-conditioned waiting rooms and bigger toilets. Now, colourful murals decorate the walls of the station building and separate lanes are designated for three and four-wheelers.

“The building has been renovated and most of the construction work, including installation of air conditioners in the waiting halls, is over. Now, it is important that visitors get basic amenities, including clean water and food, at the station, especially in this scorching heat. The Northern Railways will soon install two water vending machines and start a big food court,” Arun Arora, divisional railway manager, Delhi division, said.

In order to enhance the lighting at the station, LED lights will be installed at passenger shelters, foot overbridge, uncovered areas on the platforms, circulation areas and the station building. The authorities are also planning the installation of an LED station board and acrylic glow sign boards on the station premises.

“It is important that women and children feel safe at the station. LED lights will be installed at several locations on the station premises,” Arora said.

As passengers have repeatedly complained about continuous traffic jams and encroachments on the railway station road, the authorities are in talks with the administration to widen the road.

“Considering the traffic jams around the station, we have written a letter to the district administration, requesting them to widen the road. This will ease traffic and make the station easily accessible,” an official of Northern Railways said.
