Lodha report: SC to hear plea, but many state units yet to give feedback
The Supreme Court is likely to hear the Cricket Association of Bihar’s (CAB) plea seeking the implementation of the Justice RM Lodha panel report on reforms in the BCCI this week. However, many state associations are yet to discuss this report and many others have sought time to do that.
The Supreme Court is likely to hear the Cricket Association of Bihar’s (CAB) plea seeking the implementation of the Justice RM Lodha panel report on reforms in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) this week. However, many state associations are yet to discuss this report and many others have sought time to do that.
On January 7, the BCCI had advised state units to convene a meeting of their managing committee or board before January 31 and discuss the implications of the Lodha panel recommendations. (The report was released on January 4.)
The BCCI was of the view that some of the recommendations would have far reaching consequences and could affect the state associations.
“We have conveyed to the BCCI that we need at least two more weeks to analyse these recommendations. After that, we will re-convene our executive committee meeting and then we will take a final call,” Kashi Viswanathan, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association secretary, told HT on Monday.
Punjab will also take some time. “We will soon call a meeting to discuss this. But we need at least one more month to take any view. We have already started working; we have been studying each and every point in the report. A committee will be set up for this. We have to check if there would be any adverse effect on our working,” Punjab association secretary, MP Pandove, said.
Interestingly, the Himachal body, headed by BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur, has not announced a meeting date. Sources said it would seek more time from the BCCI to furnish its reply.
Uttar Pradesh, whose secretary Rajiv Shukla is the IPL chairman, is also yet to give its views. Its director, Prem Dhar Pathak, said: “Our secretary was busy with IPL-related things, He is now available and we have convened a meeting on January 28. I don’t think time is an issue for us. We are confident we will take a decision on 28th.”
Bengal and Delhi will also meet close to the deadline. “We have called a special general meeting on January 29. I don’t think we need more time to finalise our view,” Biswarup Dey, treasurer, Cricket Association of Bengal, said.
“We have asked our senior office-bearers to meet on January 27 and 28 and give their view. I don’t think we are late as there are holidays in Delhi due to the Republic Day,” said DDCA vice-president, Chetan Chauhan.
The Mumbai association postponed its meeting scheduled on Monday as president, Sharad Pawar, was unable to attend due to illness.
