The real test of the second phase of odd-even scheme will be today as it is the first working day since the car rationing measure was rolled out in Delhi on Friday.
All offices, schools and other institutions will reopen today after the extended weekend. The second phase of the scheme was rolled out on the day of Ram Navmi, a public holiday, followed by the weekend.
Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai has, however, expressed hope, saying, “We can only win if fought together. People should cooperate for the sake of their children. Today being Monday is a big test for the scheme but like last time, I am sure people will support it again.”
“Taxis, autos etc are properly running in entire Delhi. The Delhi Metro has enhanced its frequency,” he added.
The scheme was launched to prevent vehicular pollution.
According to the formula, even number cars will ply on Delhi roads from 8am to 8pm on Monday.
Delhi auto and taxi unions called off their one-day strike on Sunday night after getting a ‘written assurance’ from the transport minister.
The transporters had earlier threatened to go on a one-day strike on Monday to protest against app-based cab services.
