When Kaveri Singh, 26, cooked butter chicken for her family for the first time, they were taken by surprise. Her professional life keeps her very busy, leaving no time for cooking. But, being a foodie, she couldn’t stop herself from trying something new. A box full of ingredients and a printed recipe was all she needed to whip out the finger-licking butter chicken. And, this is exactly what got delivered at her Defence Colony home. Enabling people to cook a restaurant-worthy dish in their own kitchens, the box contains step-by-step instructions along with pre-measured ingredients.
“We want to cook exotic as well as traditional recipes but have no time to run looking for ingredients. Concepts like this are new but perfect for busy professional,” said Kaveri. Like the 50-odd residents of south Delhi ordering from Chef In A Box daily, Kaveri too came to know about it through word of mouth.
“I wanted people to experience takeouts but also wanted them to take a break from dal-roti. We provide exotic recipes so that struggling cooks can make anything besides omelette or Maggi,” said Gayatri Iyer, founder of Chef In A Box.
Breaking free from their 9-5 jobs, many like Gayatri are spilling their secret ingredients for those who are passionate for cooking. At a corner of her house in South Extension-1, Mahak Malik Rawal, 30, sits for hours coordinating with orders, arranging recipes, managing accounts and thinking marketing strategies for her bakery and classes. “There were moments when I regretted leaving my job but I realised my first love has always been baking. I was a home baker for a long time. My cakes and ice creams are free of preservatives and I never compromise on the taste,” said Mahak, owner of Bliss Bakery.

But gradually they gained confidence about their cooking skills and started experimenting with exotic cuisines.es. I did classes for couples and they were a huge hit,” says Shreyaa.
For Surrinderder Sahu, a banker, cooking is a rarer event. But to surprise his family,amily, he enrolled in the cooking classes. “Both men and women men should know how to cook in today’s times when there is no difference between the bread earner and the home-maker. I enrolled in these classes thinking the same and I loved the results,” he said.
