Faulty evaluation victim: IIT aspirant who missed test hopeful

An IIT-JEE aspirant from Dhar, MP, who missed the entrance test in 2015 due to faulty evaluation, is hopeful to take this year’s test thanks to high court’s intervention.
Bhoomendra Singh Sisodia was awarded 74% by the MP State Board of Secondary Education, making him ineligible from appearing for the exam last year.
Later, following a high court order, his answer sheets were revaluated by the board and his marks were enhanced to 85.6%.
But by the time the high court ordered the board to issue him the correct marksheet, the last date for submission of application form for IIT-JEE 2016 was already over.
“There is a provision to make corrections in the application form. We would apprise the CBSE about the court’s order with the hope that he might be allowed to take the examination,” said his mother Purnima Sisodia.
“I was shocked to see my Class 12 results. It was unbelievable that I could not even clear the cut-off percentage to appear for the IIT-JEE entrance test,” said the 17-year-old.
The boy had wished to challenge the results and request for revaluation of his answer sheets; but to his despair such a provision was not present in the state education board rules.
“When a CBSE student can avail of the facility of revaluation, then why a state education board student should be barred from availing of such facility?” Bhoomendra said.
The boy and his parents decided to move the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which ordered for revaluation of his answer sheets.
“On December 17, 2015, the education board experts revaluated his answer sheets in the court. Bhoomendra whose aggregate PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Maths) score was 74% before revaluation, is now enhanced to 85.6%,” said his counsel Animesh Chaturvedi.
He was awarded 87/100 in Mathematics, whereas after revaluation he obtained 98/100; similarly his marks in Physics enhanced from 48/75 to 60/75 and in Chemistry his marks improved from 50/75 to 56/75.
Based on the outcomes of the revaluation, justice Prakash Shivastava on Tuesday ordered the state’s secondary education board to issue correct mark sheet to Bhoomendra.
The last date for submission of IIT-JEE Main 2016 application form was closed on January 11. “We plan to request the CBSE to consider his case and allow him to take examination, since the error lies with the state examination board. He should not suffer for their mistake,” said Chaturvedi.
