Behind closet doors: Kartik Aaryan
The actor from Pyaar Ka Punchnama says he doesn’t own a credit card. Why? He fears he might go bankrupt shopping
Kartik Aaryan’s Andheri home is an extension of his style — simple and casual. He doesn’t even care if you think he’s boring. The reason? He thinks he looks good irrespective of what he chooses to wear.
Changing style: “In Gwalior, where I lived initially, I never thought much about fashion. I started understanding fashion only when I moved to Delhi. That’s when I started wearing fitting clothes (earlier I wore only loose T-shirts). And once you get into showbiz, you are constantly under the scanner. So, now I focus on my overall look.”
Style sensibilities: “I’ve been subtle in my taste. It’s all about solid colours — mostly blue, white and black. Also, I believe one should always feel comfortable in what they wear. Because when they’re not, their body language is always a big give-away.”
Closet staples: “Caps, jackets and sweatshirts. I’m also a big fan of white T-shirts. I think I own about 15 of them.”
Brand love: “I’m a fan of Adidas Originals. I love their Stan Smith collection. I also like Zara — it is the one brand that caters to both the markets: celebrities and the common man.”
Impulsive shopper: “Honestly, I don’t own a credit card, only because I know I’ll go bankrupt when I go shopping with it. I can never go to a mall to shop because there are simply too many options, and I’d want to get everything possible. For instance, once, when I had gone to a mall, I bought checkered shirts in all the available colours.”
Style no-no: “I can’t mix different sports brands together. I would never go to the gym wearing a Nike sweatshirt and Adidas shoes.”

Shady business: “I’m not a funky guy naturally. That’s why I love my shades: they add that sense of spunk to my wardrobe. The John Lennon-style ones look very cool.”
Watch it: “When I was just starting out, there was a time when I couldn’t afford fancy watches. I was around 22-years-old at the time. So, my mom gifted me a Tag Heuer watch on my birthday. I had wanted it for a long time and she knew that. She had been saving up the money to buy it for me. That was and will be the sweetest gift I’ve ever received.”
Favourite shopping destination: “Canada. It’s the one destination where I get clothes that match my sense of fashion.”

Faux pas diaries: “Three years ago, when I was new to the industry, I was supposed to go for an awards function. I didn’t have any knowledge about designers and was entirely unaware about how I should be dressed for the event. I ended up wearing a plain T-shirt and denims. It was super awkward and I felt completely out-of-place looking at men all suited-up. Till date, I am surprised I was allowed to enter the event at all that day.”
Lavish purchase: “I once purchased a bag using only an online image for reference. I liked it so much that I immediately bought it. When the bag was finally delivered, it was rubbish — it looked nothing like its image.”
