“No one from the company approached the discom for coordinating when they began the digging work. They (company workers) start digging from any location and damage underground cables. We are writing to the higher authorities for action against the company,” said Kuldeep Nehra, DHBVN sub-divisional officer, DLF circle.

Nehra said a cable was ruptured in April that caused power outage in DLF 1 and Sushant Lok 1. He said a similar incident occurred near Belvedere Tower in DLF 2 resulting in a blackout in multi-storey buildings. Residents complained to the local police station but no case was lodged.

The power cable of 11 KV was damaged near a road crossing from Power house to DLF Phase 2 in the city court area. Nehra said that after receiving information, they asked the company officials to reach the spot and coordinate but no one turned up.

“There was no electricity for three hours. We are already suffering from power outages and such irresponsible behaviour by these companies is causing further problems,” said Deepak Gupta, resident of DLF Phase 2.

Manoj Yadav, the executive engineer of the suburban division, said that usually the cost of repair is recovered from those who damage the infrastructure. He said that action would be initiated against the company.

An electrical engineer of the company, on the condition of anonymity, said the workers had no information about the route of the cables because of which one of the cables was damaged.
