A Delhi-based woman and her friend suffered bullet injuries after a group of unknown men shot at them on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway for allegedly protesting against lewd marks made at one of the women group member.
The injured, Sidhant Thakur, 27 and Devishree, 25, are undergoing treatment at Gurgaon’s Medanta hospital, police said.
Police said, on Sunday night, the group of six friends from Delhi, including an assistant jailer of Tihar Jail, Sunil Kumar, CAG auditor Sanjeev Kumar and two girls, travelling in Mahindra Scorpio had a brawl with three strangers, who allegedly passed lewd comments at one of the woman in the group, outside a liquor shop at Kapashera border.
When tempers calmed down, the group from Delhi drove away from the spot in the vehicle.
But at 1 am, when they stopped by near IFFCO chowk on the Expressway, the three unknown accused and other two, intercepted the Scorpio, smashed the windows with base ball bats, fired at Sidhant and Devishree and fled from the spot.
Sandeep, a resident of Dwarka, who was driving the car, filed a complaint at DLF Phase 2 police station.
“Sidhant has bullet injuries on right arm while Devishree in the abdomen,” said ASI Deepak, the investigation officer
A case has been lodged against unknown person under 307 (attempt to murder) 34 (common intention to commit a crime) of Indian Penal Code and several others sections of Arms Act, at DLF Phase 2 police station.
Police said that they will record and statements of injured and also see if there is any CCTV footage to investigate the incident. The injured are recovering, police said.
