The dust storm hit the city at about 4:30 pm, after which power outages were reported from several sectors, including all phases of DLF, Sushant Lok, Palam Vihar and old Gurgaon. There were reports of a breakdown as old electricity lines caused a short circuit in many localities in sectors 10, 14, 15, 17 and Udyog Vihar.
After the storm was over, the power discom personnel tried to fix faults but several areas reported power outages till late evening. Officials of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) said that damage to some electric cables led to power outages and the same were being fixed.
The discom was caught unawares on May 29 when a thunderstorm damaged seven transformers and more than 90 electricity poles in the city. Several areas remained without power for three days after the storm.
On Sunday, the meteorological department predicted that there would be a dust storm or a thunderstorm on Monday evening. The storm is likely to lower the temperature leading to showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, the met department had said.
The day saw the mercury touch 42.7 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature remained near 30.1 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature after the storm and drizzle plunged to 38.2 degrees Celsius on Monday evening.
Earlier in the day, humidity between 45% and 83% made residents uncomfortable.
The met department has predicted a pleasant week with drizzle on Tuesday, Wednesday and rain by Saturday.
