Vijaywada: Ants bit four-day-old baby to death, allege parents
A hospital official said the red marks on baby’s chest were the result of administering a cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
Parents of a four-day-old baby who died last week in a government-run hospital, on Monday alleged the infant died from ant bites.
On Friday, the baby was put in an incubator after being found unconscious by the mother. However, the infant did not respond.
Denying negligence, doctors at the Old Government Hospital said the baby died from a lung disorder and was even underweight.
A hospital official said the red marks on baby’s chest were the result of administering a cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
Relatives alleged that a saline bottle hanging on a stand had fallen on the infant, injuring him.
An autopsy has been conducted and Krishna district collector A Babu said the cause of the death would be known after the report was received.
An inquiry was also ordered by health minister Kamineni Srinivas, who is away in London. The sub-collector was directed to submit the report.
Leaders of opposition parties, who visited the hospital to console the family, demanded action against the negligent hospital authorities. The relatives of the baby also staged a protest.
Last year, a 10-day-old baby died of rat bites in the intensive care unit of a government-run hospital in Guntur.
