Congress serves notice to Nirupam over magazine gaffe

The disciplinary committee of the All India Congress Committee has served show cause notice to Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam for the gaffe in the Congress Darshan magazine published by the unit.
He has been given seven days to explain his stand over the article which showed the Gandhi family in bad light.
In its November-December issue, an article in Congress Darshan had blamed former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru claiming that he messed up the Jammu and Kashmir issue by not listening to the advice by then Union home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The article also had remarks about party chief Sonia Gandhi. The magazine is published by the city unit of the party headed by Nirupam.
Nirupam, who had then claimed the article to be an inadvertent error and removed the content editor of the magazine, declined to comment on the notice on Wednesday.
The notice has been served to the city unit chief just two days ahead of the Mumbai tour of party’s vice-president Rahul Gandhi. According to the party insiders the notice was nothing but a message sent out by the leadership that nothing against the party leaders would be tolerated.
“The notice would help minimise the differences among the factions in the party as it has created confidence among them,” said an office bearer from the Mumbai Congress.
Soon after the article published in last week of December, the factionalism had surfaced to the fore with different factions resorting to one-upmanship.
