J-K govt formation: PDP, BJP leaders to meet governor, clear stand
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and BJP leaders will meet Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra on Tuesday to spell out their stand on the formation of a coalition government
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and BJP leaders will meet Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra on Tuesday to spell out their stand on the formation of a coalition government that slipped into a state of political uncertainty following the death of sitting chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7.
The two sides have kept the cards close to their chest, refusing to reveal their strategy till early Tuesday.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kept the Bharatiya Janata Party guessing and asked for reassurances from the latter on time bound implementation of the common minimum programme. The BJP on its part did not appear inclined to pull the plug, even as it dismissed any possibility of giving written assurances to the PDP.
Mehbooba is apparently concerned about the fallout of the general perception that the BJP asserted itself during the previous government under her father and did not allow him enough manoeuvring space.
The BJP believes any further concession to its ally, which holds a different position on several ideological issues, may not go down well with its constituency in and outside the state.

“We are committed to the common minimum programme finalised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mufti Saheb,” BJP general secretary Ram Madhav told reporters on Monday night after an emergency meeting with state BJP leaders.
The party is expected to tell the governor on Tuesday that it would wait for Mehbooba to take a call on government formation.
