RLD chief Ajit Singh likely to get Rajya Sabha berth
The SP-RLD alliance for UP elections may include a seat-sharing formula, Rajya Sabha berth for RLD chief Chaudhary Ajit Singh and an opening for RLD general secretary Jayant Chaudhary.
Samajwadi Party (SP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) are likely to announce a pre-poll pact in UP assembly elections. The alliance may include a seat-sharing formula, Rajya Sabha berth for RLD chief Chaudhary Ajit Singh and an opening for RLD general secretary Jayant Chaudhary.
Sources in SP said Ajit Singh had a meeting with SP chief Mulayam Singh in New Delhi on Saturday, which was followed up by talks with SP leader Shivpal Yadav.
He is said to have met SP’s member of legislative council Ashu Malik on Sunday. The RLD leader met Mulayam again on Sunday. “The two parties are looking for a pre-poll pact that would largely be confined to western UP region’s constituencies,” said a senior SP leader requesting anonymity. While Shivpal Yadav told the media the meeting was only formal, another SP leader Dr SP Rai said: “Ajit Singh is the son of SP icon late Charan Singh, so in a way his is part of the family.”
