Since the start of the cleanliness drive in January 13 last year, at least one cabinet minister turns out at the ghat on every Sundays to monitor the Rs 2 crore project being carried out by the Ujjain Municipal Corporation.

The UMC is carrying out work on the 11-km stretch from Triveni Ghat to Sidhavat.

During an inspection last week, divisional commissioner Ravindra Pastore had said he was told by the UMC officials that cleaning at Triveni ghat had been finished.

But, the saplings planted by minister Maliya and others were left abandoned, raising question on utility of the plantation.

Commissioner Pastore said he was told by the officials that cleaning at Triveni had been complete but he would see to it if garbage was left there.

The visits of ministers were allegedly restricted to photo session as the cavalcade comprising bureaucrats and BJP workers returned with the minister after hardly picking 10-20 buckets of mud.
