“The police have conducted his medical check-up and it was confirmed that he is a eunuch,” Tukoganj police station in-charge inspector Dilip Singh Choudhary said.

Choudhary said the action was taken after deputy inspector general of police Santosh Kumar Singh directed all the police stations to act against all non-bailable warrantees and absconders.

On Thursday, Singh had called a meeting of all police station incharges and directed them to arrest the accused of registered cases in the next one month.

Choudhary said Shrivastava, who belongs to Pushpnagar and is currently a resident of Nandlalpura, was wanted in a 2008 theft case at a jewellery showroom.

At that time, the Tukoganj police registered a case against him under Section 380 (theft in any building) of the Indian Penal Code and issued a non-bailable warrant against him after they failed to arrest him.

Choudhary said during interrogation, Alok confessed that he had turned into a eunuch after committing the crime to dupe the police.

“Initially, he went underground to stay out of police grip but after sometime he decided to change his gender sensing it was a safe way to live his life and stay away from police action. He turned into a eunuch and started living along with other eunuchs at Nandlalpura area,” Choudhary said.

“However, a couple of days ago, the police got a tip-off and started investigations to find the accused. On Friday, the police launched a search operation in Nandlalpura area and questioned Alok and a few other eunuchs to ascertain identity of the accused. Once it was confirmed, the police arrested him,” Choudhary added.
