The Audhyogic Kendra Vikas Nigam (AKVN), Indore – a government agency -- plans to float tenders in June and the work is likely to start by October, 2016.
“The work will take about 18 months to complete and Pithampur would have Narmada water supply by 2018,” AKVN managing director Kumar Purushottam said.
Pithampur is a large industrial area under Dhar District. Parts of Pithampur Industrial area host over 850 large, medium and small scale private industries and Public Sector Undertakings.
The Pithampur Jal Prabhandhan Company Ltd (PJPCL), a special purpose vehicle, has selected a consultant to review the detailed project report (DPR) conducting the bidding process and other related works for improvement of water supply system for the industrial area.
PJPCL is a special purpose company incorporated to implement, promote and facilitate the development of water supply system for Pithampur industrial area and phase I of Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow investment region.
The consultant will see that the Narmada water supply project, with a capacity of 90 MLD (million litres a day), is implemented in accordance with the plan and within the stipulated time.
The project will comprise developing of infrastructure for the water supply system for transmission and distribution of water as per the demand of the industrial area.
The Pithampur industry faces acute water shortage every summer as the levels in the reservoirs come down.
However, this year, the problem was more acute and the industrial units were almost entirely dependent on water tankers.
In September 2013, the DMIC Trust had cleared the Pithampur water supply project to lay pipeline from Narmada-Kshipra link. An earlier deadline of completing the first phase of the project by March, 2016 has now been pushed back.
“The work on Narmada water supply has been delayed unnecessarily and the industry has been facing acute hardships,” Pithampur industry association president Gautam Kothari said.
The Pithampur industrial area has a demand of 18-20 MLD (million litres a day) of water while the project will have a capacity of 90 MLD once it becomes fully operational. Initially, the water supply will be as per the requirements of the industrial area.
