“Construction was stuck for several years… But the NDA government expedited work and now only three or four flyovers on some stretches are to be completed,” Gadkari told the media at All India Regional Editors Conference.
“We will inaugurate it by March. Earlier, it took eight hours to travel from Jaipur to Delhi by road but now it will be over in three hours.”
The road transport and highway minister said his ministry received a proposal to link Kori Creek in Gujarat with Jalore in Rajasthan through a waterway.
“The public sector enterprise WAPCOS is going through the details. We will also study the possibility of ferrying passengers and goods on the Indira Gandhi canal.”
The minister outlined measures taken by his ministry to lay a network of roads and highways across the country. “To reduce the cost of construction, we will make concrete roads that don’t need maintenance for 25-30 year,” he said.
A total of 384 projects worth Rs 3.8 lakh crore were stuck due to litigations on land acquisition or want of clearances when he took over the ministry, Gadkari said. “Now, only 14 or 15 projects are pending.”
