Make In India fire: BMC charged CII Rs8L to clear debris
On February 14, a major fire gutted down the stage erected for the Maharashtra Rajni show of the event
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) had to pay the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Rs8 lakh to clear the debris of the fire at the Make In India event held at Girgaum Chowpatty.
On February 14, a major fire gutted down the stage erected for the Maharashtra Rajni show of the event. The civic body cleared the debris from the site within a day.
In response to an right to information query filed by activist Anil Galgali, the civic body said the CII paid them the amount on March 4, 2016.
The debris were cleared using 10 JCBs, 39 dumpers (67 trips), 2 compactors, 198 labour staff and 80 supervisory staff in two shifts. As it was the duty of the event organiser (CII) to make arrangements, the civic body recovered the expenses from them. The BMC had cleared about 315 metric tonnes of debris from the damaged site.
“The civic body had issued a notice to reimburse the amount, Rs8,06,952, from CII within seven days. I had raised this issue and written a letter to recover it from the event organiser,” said Galgali.
