No more queues: Jet Airways, AI to automate check-in process
From two self-service kiosks at Terminal 2 (T2) that issue boarding passes and checked-in baggage tags on a couple of AI routes, this service will soon be operational on the entire domestic network of these two carriers, which collectively cater to more than one-third of domestic fliers in India.
Most Jet Airways and Air India (AI) fliers will soon have the option of skipping check-in queues each time they take a domestic flight from Mumbai.
From two self-service kiosks at Terminal 2 (T2) that issue boarding passes and checked-in baggage tags on a couple of AI routes, this service will soon be operational on the entire domestic network of these two carriers, which collectively cater to more than one-third of domestic fliers in India.
Confirming the development, a Jet Airways spokesperson said, “We already have six counters for domestic fliers and three for international fliers dedicated for web check-in, kiosks check-in and baggage drop services. We will soon introduce baggage tag printing.”
On April 1, two self-check-in booths installed by the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) began issuing automated boarding cards and baggage tags. The Common-Use Self (check-in) Service (CUSS), set up at T2, the airport’s new integrated terminal, will also generate tags for checked-in bags.
Fliers using the service can skip the check-in queues and head to a self-bag-drop counter where an airline staffer will verify the tag and complete the check-in process faster, said airport officials.

While the Mumbai airport operator did not specify when the service will be operational, the spokesperson said the service will be eventually available to domestic fliers across all airlines.
“We are in discussion with all domestic airlines. Passengers of Air India and Jet Airways will get to use the service first,” said a MIAL spokesperson.
