The incident came to light after a local resident of Malad recorded a video, allegedly showing two people in a car abducting a girl from SV road near Chincholi fatak in Malad (West).

Sudhir Mhadik, senior inspector of the Malad police station, said, “We have started investigation into the incident based on the statement given by a witness. Two women police officers are investigating the case. The team visited the spot, but could not get leads. An FIR is yet to be registered. Further investigation is on.”

Narrating the incident, Kabir Sayyed, a local resident whose friend gave the footage to the police, said, “The car stopped at the gate of a hotel at SV Road. The people picked up the girl, who was walking on the road, and put her in the car.”

They headed to the parking area and waited for around 10-12 minutes. According to the police, the video shows the girl fighting a man inside the car. She is seen trying to come out of the vehicle, said Sayyed, adding the vehicle then drove towards link road.

“I was sitting in my office in Kandivali, when I received a call from a local resident who had seen the incident and heard the girl’s scream for help,” said Sayyed.

He then informed the Mumbai police control room about the incident, but the car had left by the time the police reached the spot.

“We have taken note of the incident. Several police officers are working to get leads in the case. We have questioned a few people, who work in a garage in the vicinity, but haven’t managed a breakthrough,” said an officer from Malad police station on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
