Will BMC take over three key plots from Shiv Sena leaders?
Corporators claim several spaces under the previous policy do not figure on the list of 216
Civic corporators, on Wednesday, demanded a review of the list of 216 plots to be taken back under the earlier open spaces policy.
Questions have been raised over whether the civic body will take action against three key plots managed by Shiv Sena heavyweights.
The plots include Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA), which has Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray as its chairman, Dahisar Sports Foundation that maintains three recreation grounds in Dahisar has senior Sena leader and ex-MLA Vinod Ghosalkar as a trustee and Aarey Bhaskar Trust, which has Sena legislator and ex-mayor Sunil Prabhu as the trustee.

There have several complaints from the citizens against these grounds for restricting entry and charging exorbitant membership fees. Many have even filed complaints with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward offices about this, over the years.
Last week, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis directed civic commissioner Ajoy Mehta to take back the 216 plots and review the new open spaces or the RG/PG policy. The corporators have now demanded a review of the list.
The elected representative claimed there are many plots in the city whose names do not appear in the list. “There is a plot in Dadar, which is maintained by a Sena leader. There have been many complaints about the plot being used for commercial activities. However, that plot does not figure on the list,” said Sandeep Deshpande, MNS group leader.
Sena corporator and group leader in the BMC Trushna Vishwasrao’s name appeared as a trustee of a plot in Wadala on the list, corporators insisted on a review as she refuted the claims. “While I wanted to maintain the plot to provide education facilities, I never received it. However, my trust’s name has been listed,” she said.
The BMC, on Monday, served notices to 36 plots across the city. It has given a seven-day deadline to hand over the plots after clearing all dues.
