The routes cover all important residential and industrial areas of Noida and Greater Noida.

Once launched, the city bus service will provide connectivity to all upscale residential areas such as sectors 44, 40, 41, 39, 50, 51, 53 and 33. The facility will also cover education hubs such as Knowledge Park-I and Gautam Budh University in Greater Noida.

“To start the service without any further delay, the NMRC has asked the UPSRTC, a state agency expert in running transport facilities, to run the buses for Noida and Greater Noida. The UPSRTC will run the service and provide us a conductor for each bus. Earlier, a private agency was supposed to do the work,” said Santosh Yadav, managing director NMRC.

The UPSRTC will provide a dedicated team for the bus service.

In the first phase, the NMRC will run 50 air-conditioned buses on six routes. In the second phase, 50 non-air-conditioned buses will be procured, said NMRC officials.

Earlier, all 100 buses were supposed to be air-conditioned.

“To cut cost, we have decided to procure 50 non-air-conditioned buses. We are also working on ‘one city one ticket’ project so that one smart card can be used for the 30-km Noida-Greater Noida metro line as well as the city bus service,” said an NMRC official.

Officials said the service will start by mid- July with 50 air-conditioned buses. Earlier, the NMRC was scheduled to start the long-awaited bus service by June-end.

“If all goes well, we will tentatively begin the city bus service by mid-July. We could not start it in June because supporting facilities such as bus shelters, software to issue tickets, construction of the depots are yet to be completed. We are working hard to complete these supporting facilities so that we are able to start the buses next month,” Yadav said.

According to officials, a bus depot for the city service is being constructed in Noida’s Sector 90. The facility will be complete in 20 days, said officials.
