Two residents of sector 5 in Vasundhara have been booked for killing and maiming six street dogs in the locality. The complaint has been lodged by their neighbour, Adesh Kumar Bansal, who used to feed the dogs everyday and provided them shelter outside his house.

The FIR names Sanjay Kaushik and Sumit Kaushik, residents of Mohan Meakin society in sector 5, Vasundhara as the main accused in the case. A CCTV footage has captured the duo hitting the dogs with sticks which resulted in the death of one and injuries to five others.

According to Bansal, the duo had earlier also threatened to kill the dogs if they continued to roam around in their locality.

“Me, my wife and my three children used to feed the dogs every day and the dogs used to stay in front of our house all day. However, the Kaushik brothers, who stay right in front of our house, did not like this and would always threaten to poison them or kill them,” he said.

Bansal, who is a property dealer, added that on June 12, he and his family had gone out in the evening when the Kaushiks attacked the dogs. Of the six dogs, three are puppies born seven months ago, another one is a two-year-old dog and the mother is of six years.

“When we returned home on Sunday, we saw that one of the seven-month-old pup was lying dead while the mother of the dogs had a broken leg. All the other pups were crying. We took them to a veterinary hospital and got them treated,” said Bansal.

Bansal then checked the CCTV footage on the street and found that the dogs had been attacked by the brothers with sticks.

“We filed a written complaint to the police on Monday evening and lodged an FIR. However, until now, the brothers continue to be free and no action has been taken against them,” said Bansal.

According to the police, the case is being investigated. “An FIR has been lodged under section 428 (punishment for killing or maiming an animal) of the Indian Penal Code. We are searching for the accused as they are absconding since the incident. They will be nabbed soon,” said Gorakhnath Yadav, station house officer, Indirapuram Police Station

Despite repeated calls on the cell phone of one of the accused, Sanjay Kaushik, there was no response.
