As of now, the corporation’s water works department supplies 55.2 million litres of water to the two zones daily. According to officials, the groundwater pipeline will now be connected to the main pipeline supplying Ganga water, which will increase the water supply.

“Every year, the demand for water increases during summer. The extra groundwater supply will be connected with the Ganga water supply in these areas. The supply will be increased up to 72 million litres in the two zones. This will lead to an increased pressure of Ganga water mixed with groundwater and a half-an-hour extra supply every in morning and evening,” said RK Yadav, executive engineer, water works department.

He added that mobile water tanks too have been bought for the Vasundhara zone to supply water in case of a shortage in any colony.

“Two new mobile water tankers have been purchased for Vasundhara zone. They will be sent to colonies in this zone from where we receive complaints of water shortage. This is in addition to the two existing water tankers in the zone, of which one is out of order,” he said.

The corporation is also erecting 50 new hand pumps in the two zones, the survey for which was conducted in the first three weeks of April. As of now, there are 48 hand pumps in Vasundhara zone and 52 in Mohan Nagar zone.

“The supply of groundwater in these zones is done through overhead tanks that are connected to colonies and hand pumps erected in streets and near villages. The additional hand pumps that will be erected by the last week of May will check water shortage in the areas,” Yadav said.
