Taking advantage of the lackadaisical attitude of the police towards the case, the culprits, who killed Kulwant Kaur alias Kanto, 28, who was alleged to have illicit relations with Amarjit and was also found in a pool of blood inside the motor room of a tubewell near the tree, on the same day are roaming freely.
For the past two months, the Moga police have been claiming that they have got some leads and are investigating the case, but nothing has been done so far.
Sources said after a preliminary report of the autopsy failed to reveal the cause of death, the police are waiting for the autopsy report and no efforts are being done to solve this case.
They said that the police were helpless as they have not been able to get any clue about the suicide, suspected to be a murder, due to alleged illicit relations with the murdered woman. Who killed Kulwant Kaur is also a mystery for the police.
The police are now waiting for the autopsy report of Amarjit from the Kharar forensic laboratory.
According to information, the police had delayed the investigation forst for a week on the pretext that doctors would give some clue about the reason of the death in their preliminary report after which they would proceed ahead while doctors claimed that they had told the police on the same day that they might not be able to reveal anything and only a report from the forensic laboratory would disclose the actual reason of the death.
After postmortem, one of the doctors, on the condition of anonymity, revealed that they had found signs of struggle on Amarjit’s body and it appeared someone strangulated him to death before hanging.
Even the police had suspected that the youth was murdered as his family was not interested in pursuing the case and only wanted proceedings under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the Criminal Procedure Code, claiming that Amarjit was under depression due to huge debt on him.
Satwinder Singh, station house officer (SHO), Dharamkot, said that the case was at the same position as it was and nothing new has been found so far.
“The police are waiting for an autopsy report from Kharar from which the reason of death would be clear,” he added.
People close to Amarjit had said he had been having an affair with Kulwant for the past four-five years and the latter was living separately from her husband Jaspreet for the past more than two years after her extramarital affair came to light. They claimed that even their families knew about their affair.
