PU controller of examination Parvinder Singh said, “I believe the reason for the decrease in cases is that we had doubled up the number of flying squads at all centres this time. The university had only 20 flying squads earlier. This time, we had 40 flying squads. We consider this as a positive development.”

Of the 55 UMC cases, majority are related to copying from chits, books and mobile phones. Most of the complaints were registered during English, mathematics and economics exams. Moreover, majority of the defaulters are girls. “If the students are found carrying mobile phones or not following the examination rules, a case is registered on the spot,” said the controller of examination. Officials of the examination branch also stated that another likely reason for fall in the number of UMC cases is that now student s do not worry about clearing the examination as they have an option of reappearing unlike earlier, when only one chance of compartment was offered.
