IAS rank-holder from Ludhiana went off Facebook for a year

Elated after securing 63rd rank in the prestigious UPSC examinations, city resident 24-year-old Ayush Garg, says that he refrained from being on social media for a year when he was preparing for the exam and that was what paid off eventually.

He said that while his friends used to say that he has gone into ‘oblivion’, he used to work very hard and avoided the temptation to be on Facebook.

“My friends and relatives, like all others used to post their pictures on Facebook, wherever they used to go. I was focused and considered all these as distractions. I used to be on such mediums not more than ten minutes a day. I am glad my patience has been rewarding,” said Ayush.

Ayush added that while coaching centres have been mushrooming all over the state, it was self study which actually takes you places.

“Since the previous six months, I devoted more than 10 hours a day to studies and was not in touch with any of my friends. But when yesterday the result was declared I was happy that my hard work paid off.’’

Garg has secured 9th Rank in CA final exams three years ago.

Amit Pal Sharma, 28, who is an IPS officer and notched the 17th rank in UPSC exam, says persistence in preparation was his success mantra. Talking to Hindustan Times, Sharma said, “To work at the cause level, I decided to give this exam and this post will give me an opportunity to work for the development of my country.

There are various problems which our country is facing today like communalism or naxalism etc happen because of lack of development.

When asked that how he managed to prepare for the exam with job, he said, “I managed to prepare along with my job because first time when I prepared I focused on concepts and after that it just about revision and answer writing practice. So I faced no problem in preparing for the exam.’’
