After Swamy and Harsimrat, now SGPC wants Bluestar files public
Talking to the media during his visit to a grain market here on Monday to check the procurement of wheat, Manpreet, who in January merged his People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) with Congress, said the operation was a sad incident and the grand old party had no objection if documents related to this were made public.
He, however, said the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was in the habit of raising such issues at the time of elections to mislead the public, adding that the ruling party did not want to discuss real issues confronting the people such as unemployment, education and health.
The debate regarding the declassification of files related to the operation resurfaced after BJP leader and newly nominated Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy made such a demand on Saturday during an event in Phagwara, which was supported by Bathinda MP and Union minister for food processing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
On the issue of delay in payment to wheat farmers, Manpreet said every sector related to wheat procurement process, including farmers, commission agents and transporters, had been affected due to delay in payment because 25 days had passed since the procurement started but payments had not been made.
On cancellation of Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh’s Canada tour, Manpreet said it was wrong on the part of the Canadian government not to allow Amarinder to meet Punjabi diaspora and campaign among them.
