The complainants, Amarjeet Kaur and Jasweer Kaur have alleged that the Left party leader molested them and was charging money to fill up the form for demanding residential plots.
“Bhagwant Samao misbehaved with us when we were going for our daily work. This irked the sarpanch and he intervened to protect us,” reads the complaint. The case would be probed by SP (D) Kesar Singh.
On Thursday, Mazdoor Mukti Morcha Punjab chief Samao was allegedly attacked by the sarpanch and his accomplices when he was holding a meeting with the MGNREGA workers. He claimed that the sarpanch and his son were irked over the issue that during morning working hours, the MGNREGA labourers were being held up for a meeting.
The cops have arrested the sarpanch and his two accomplices in this case connection, on Thursday evening.
However, the activists of the Morcha on Friday held a protest, demanding addition of section 307 (attempt to murder) in the FIR registered against the sarpanch and his accomplices.
“It was a murderous attack. Why the cops have not registered a case of attempt to murder? When I was attacked, some of the henchmen of the sarpanch took away my cellphone and the motorcycle. I have not received it till now,” said Samao, who is still admitted in hospital.
Reacting to the allegations of molestation, Samao also said that this was a concerted effort by supporters of the accused sarpanch to implicate him in a false case.
The activists, who had assembled near the tehsil office to lead a protest march towards the village, were pacified by the police after which the march was postponed. “We convinced the protestors to not lead a march as it will only escalate the issue. We will ensure that the guilty is not spared and even law and order situation remains normal,” said SP (H) Rakesh Kumar.
