Father who chopped off hands of rape accused arrested

Paramjit Singh, accused of chopping off the hands of the teenager who is alleged to have raped his infant daughter, was on Wednesday arrested near the crime scene at Jhumba village in this district.

He is reported to have told police in preliminary interrogation that he had planned this crime and carried a rope and a sharp-edged weapon for the purpose.

“On Tuesday, he offered rape accused Parminder Singh (17) a compromise deal and a motorcycle ride to Bathinda courts to give effect to the agreement,” said superintendent of police (detective) Bikramjit Singh, adding: “On the way, he drugged rape accused by spiking his Coke and took him to Jhumba, where he tied him to a tree and severed his hands.”

A case of attempt to murder has been registered against Paramjit Singh under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The injured rape accused is under treatment at Faridkot’s Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.
