Hoshiarpur CJM issues notice in Ramdev case

Hearing an application filed on behalf of yoga guru Ramdev, which demanded the transfer of a case filed against him from the court of the Hoshiarpur chief judicial magistrate (CJM) to the Patna CJM, as per the Supreme Court’s directions, the district and sessions judge on Wednesday issued a notice to the parties concerned for a hearing on February 16.

Hearing an application filed on behalf of yoga guru Ramdev, which demanded the transfer of a case filed against him from the court of the Hoshiarpur chief judicial magistrate (CJM) to the Patna CJM, as per the Supreme Court’s directions, the district and sessions judge on Wednesday issued a notice to the parties concerned for a hearing on February 16.

The case in question was filed under the SC/ST Act against Ramdev by two local lawyers. Dharminder Dadra and Guriqbal Singh had filed a writ petition against Ramdev for “using derogatory language” against the Dalit community while targeting Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in 2014.

The Hoshiarpur CJM had summoned Ramdev to the court on February 2. Meanwhile, an application had been filed on his behalf before the district and sessions judge asking for transfer of the case to the Patna CJM.

While staying further proceedings in the lower court, the district court issued a notice.
