Impressed by AAP rally: Jagmeet Brar

A day after the Aam Aadmi Party put up a big show during Maghi Mela in Muktsar, ex-MP and former Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Jagmeet Brar said on Friday here that even though impressed by the numbers, he wasn’t going to switch to the AAP.
“I have neither any intention nor any invitation to join the AAP,” said Brar, “but in my 30-year political career, I have not seen such a big crowd at any leader’s rally”. Brar said even Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had praised the AAP after its landslide victory in the Delhi assembly elections and asked his party to learn from the rival. “Rather every politician in Punjab should look into why the AAP has emerged — because today’s politicians are turning millionaires but none is them is willing to help the poor,” he said.
Last year, the Congress had suspended Brar for speaking against the party high command. His suspension was, later, revoked but there were since speculations of his joining the AAP or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On Friday, he denied any intention to join the AAP but mentioned that all its leader, including its convener, knew him well. “I was youngest to go to jail in the days of Emergency. Politicians with feudal mindset have always tried to defeat me,” he said, apparently trying to fit into the AAP scheme of things.
He also lashed out at deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for his asking people to reject the topi-walas (AAP). “All freedom fighters, including Bhagat Singh used to wear topi (cap). By speaking against topi, you criticise our patriots who laid down their lives for the country,” Brar told Sukhbir.
