Justice Ahluwalia, nine others take oath as Punjab and Haryana high court judges

Transferred from the Calcutta high court, justice Sudip Ahluwalia was sworn in as the judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday.

He was administered the oath of office by acting chief justice SJ Vazifdar. Nine additional judges Raj Mohan Singh, Amit Rawal, Deepak Sibal, Hari Pal Verma, Raj Rahul Garg, Gurmit Ram, Sneh Prashar, Darshan Singh and Shekhar Kumar Dhawan were also administered the oath of office as permanent judges by the acting chief justice. The nine were working as additional judges since September 2014.

With the transfer of justice Ahluwalia, the number of judges in the HC now is 47 against the sanctioned strength of 85.

Born in December 1959, justice Ahluwalia graduated in humanities from Punjabi University in 1978 and completed his LLB from Indore in 1981.An officer of the West Bengal judicial services, he was elevated to the high court in October 2013 and became a permanent judge in March 2016.
