Gangster-politician Rocky killed: Rivals celebrate ‘revenge’ on Facebook
The fatal shooting of gangster-turned-politician Jaswinder Singh ‘Rocky’, near Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, sparked quick reaction from rivals on Facebook, many posting from inside jails and terming it “revenge” for the police encounter of another gangster, Gursewak Singh alias Shera Khubban.
The fatal shooting of gangster-turned-politician Jaswinder Singh ‘Rocky’, near Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, sparked quick reaction from rivals on Facebook, many posting from inside jails and terming it “revenge” for the police encounter of another gangster, Gurshahid Singh alias Shera Khubban.
One gangster even termed Swapan Sharma, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Bathinda, “Rocky’s friend”. Most of these FB posts had photos of Rocky’s car after the shooting and also those of his body. Shera Khubban had been killed by the Bathinda police in an encounter in the city’s Kamla Nehru Colony in September 2012. Rival gangs had seen it as a conspiracy by Rocky’s men.
Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, in jail for the murder of another young gangster Sukha Kahlon, wrote on his Facebook timeline, along with photos: “Ajj sade veer Shera Khubban da badla pura ho gya. Ah peya vadda badmash Rocky Fazilka (Today the killing of our brother Shera Khubban has been avenged. Here lies the big don Rocky Fazilka!)”
It was Vicky Gounder, a gangster from Muktsar district, who also wrote on his FB that the killing of Khubban had been avenged, and added, “Aah bnata MLA (Rocky has finally been made MLA)”, taking a jibe at Rocky’s political ambitions that had seen him lose a close election from Fazilka in 2012.
In the same post, Gounder termed SSP Sharma as Rocky’s friend and wrote how Sharma had once asked him (Gounder) to sleep on the floor of the crime investigating agency (CIA) office in Bathinda. “I had said to the SSP that I would show him when Rocky would be decimated,” he said (as translated from his post in Punjabi).
Sharma, who had also served as SSP at Rocky’s native town Fazilka, told HT that Gounder had been arrested for making an extortion call: “That’s why he has written such a thing about me.”
Another gangster, Jodha Kothaguru, lodged in the Nabha jail, went on FB to gloat about the “revenge” and added: “...Je sada ik maroge thode kayin jaan ge. Itihass gubah hai es gall da (If you kill one of ours, we will kill many of yours. History is witness to this).”
Facebook users Deep Sandhu Bathinda Wala and Dhruv Daudhar also posted similar messages.
