A labourer, who was allegedly beaten up severely by three people on May 18 when he, along with his son, had gone to the house of one of the accused to collect the pending amount for the work he had done at his house, died on Sunday morning.

According to the complainant lodged by Vibha Devi, 40, Suresh Kumar, with his neighbour Prince, 21, and another unidentified man beat up her husband and son with wooden sticks.

She said her husband sustained serious injuries after which he was taken to Guru Nanak Mission Hospital on the same day. She said that, on May 21, Sake Ram was shifted to a private hospital where succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.

After the death, Devi, along with family members and community members, gathered at Bhargo camp police station and filed a complaint against the accused.

Additional deputy commissioner of police, Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu, said that a case under Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against Suresh, Prince and one unidentified man has been registered and both have been arrested.

Sandhu said that the body has been shifted to the civil hospital for postmortem. Till the time of filing the report, some middlemen were trying to settle the case by reaching a compromise between the accused and the deceased’s family.

The deceased has been is survived by his wife and two sons and two daughters.
