Namdharis hold march, want Dalip Singh held for murder of Chand Kaur
Namdhari youth from the sect’s headquarters at Bhaini Sahib, 22 kilometres from here, took out a march on Friday to demand the arrest of those who killed sect’s matriarch Chand Kaur on April 4.
Namdhari youth from the sect’s headquarters at Bhaini Sahib, 22 kilometres from Ludhiana, took out a march on Friday to demand the arrest of those who killed sect’s matriarch Chand Kaur on April 4.
The 1,500-odd protesters belonging to the Namdhari youth wing accused Thakur Dalip Singh, estranged brother of sect head Satguru Uday Singh, of having a direct hand in the murder and sought his arrest. The peaceful march started from Namdhari Shaheedi Samark in Ludhiana and ended at the deputy commissioner’s office. The protesters kept to one side of the road and didn’t disrupt traffic. They walked under heavy security.
“It’s clear who stands to gain from the murder but police are silent,” said Namdhari youth wing general secretary Sukhwinder Singh, adding: “We demand that Thakur Dalip Singh (who runs a parallel dera at Sirsa in Haryana) be banned from giving any speech against our sect. Investigations into last December’s blast near Jalandhar have also revealed his men to be involved.”
The Bhaini Sahib faction has threatened to intensify its protest, if its demands were not met. On April 4, two men on a motorcycle shot Chand Kaur (85), wife of late former Namdhari sect head Satguru Jagjit Singh, when she was on a battery-run golf cart near the Bhaini Sahib gurdwara at the international headquarters of the sect.
