In a bid to beautify the city, the municipal corporation has launched several initiatives including clearing of garbage and malba, and now levelling of roadsides in the areas outside sectors - the task that has not been taken up in years.
“With constant efforts of resident welfare associations and councillors, several complaints regarding general problems are received from residential areas. However, no one cares about outer roads, though most people use them. People visiting the city from nearby areas take the impression from the outer roads only,”said MC commissioner Jagdeep Dhanda.
In the first phase, the road from the Chandigarh Housing Board chowk to Sectors 12/12 A, connected with Madhya Marg of Chandigarh, will be revived. The roads inside the sectors will be maintained thereafter.
“Being at the backyard of Chandigarh, the most beautiful city in the world, it’s our prerogative to focus on beautification ,” he said, adding that several MC workers were working roundthe-clock on the project.
“Roadsides in Panchkula have never been levelled. Grills are defunct; road curbs are broken; and encroachment is rampant. All these aspects need to be addressed,”said Dhanda, adding nobody had ever complained to him regarding poor condition of roadsides in the outer areas.
Dhanda said they were committed to address the problem of potholes-ridden roads, but the work couldn’t be carried out due to cold weather conditions.
The MC is soon going to sign a formal agreement for outsourcing of garbage in ward number 9 comprising Sectors 1 ( Gurukul Colony), 5 (Police Colony), 6,7, 8 and 18.
