Tightening the security, the police have started conducting special checking of vehicles at different places.
The new bunkers have been set up at bus stand, railway station, ICICI Bank and Bibi Wala Chowk. The police have deployed SLR laden police personnel in these bunkers to avoid any untoward incident.
Ironically, the cemented bunkers built at the time of Dinanagar attack around six months ago were still lying abandoned.
Bathinda is crucial as far as army movement is concerned, as one of the major cantonments is situated in its periphery, besides the Indian Air Force station at Bhisiana, situated around 18 km from here.
However, the police have also increased night patrolling across Bathinda city and its satellite towns. The local police have also made special teams to conduct random checking at bus stand and railway station.
Senior superintendent of police Swapan Sharma said round the clock patrolling has been increased manifold and even armed police personnel have been deployed to ensure security in the district.
“The special meetings have been held with officials of thermal plant, National Fertilizer Limited (NFL), oil depots of petroleum companies and Guru Gobind Singh refinery and they have been advised to make adequate security arrangements on their respective premises”, Sharma said.
He added that the managements of these institutions have been directed to alert local police immediately in case of any unusual activity. “We have also police personnel on standby so as to respond rapidly in case of emergency situation”, he said.
Meanwhile, as per the available information, elaborate security arrangements have been made across six districts-Bathinda, Mansa, Faridkot, Ferozpur, Fazilka and Muktsar, falling under jurisdiction of Bathinda range police.
