Sukhbir, who is currently touring China, spoke to director general of police (DGP) Suresh Arora and ADGP (prisons) MK Tiwari over phone and told them to take all steps to check illegal activities, especially supply of drugs and use of mobile phones, in jails.

Sukhbir said stringent action should be taken against any violation. He also emphasised on the need for use of latest technology in the form of jammers, surveillance cameras to monitor jail inmates.
Teh DGP told Sukhbir that during the recent statewide search operations at jails, some shortcomings were noticed. The jail department has been notified in this regard, he added.
