Assembly polls: Rahul to visit Zirakpur on Saturday
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will visit Zirakpur on Saturday with the message for party leaders and cadres “to put up a united front” in the coming assembly polls.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will visit Zirakpur on Saturday with the message for party leaders and cadres “to put up a united front” in the coming assembly polls.
Rahul will hold a marathon meeting for about three hours with 2,500 people from the state unit of the Congress at all levels, which includes all sitting and former MLAs, sitting and former MPs, Congress Legislature Party leader and all previous incumbents, and office-bearers of the party and its frontal organisations.
“He will set the tone for the polls and is expected to discuss issues concerning the party and the state threadbare, giving time to every leader and office-bearer,” said a party insider. After taking the feedback the party will draw a strategy for the polls.
Rahul’s visit is being seen as the party putting up an aggressive tone for the polls, especially three days after the Baisakhi political conference at Talwandi Sabo where senior leaders, Punjab campaign committee incharge Ambika Soni and state affairs incharge Shakeel Ahmad, categorically asked the party leaders to accept Amarinder as their leader or face expulsion from the party.
