A suspected case of swine flu came to Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Government Civil Hospital, Bathinda on Tuesday, but was later referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College at Faridkot.
Harpreet Kaur of Jhumba village was suffering with respiratory problems from few days and was brought to the civil hospital for medical check-up. The doctors found suspicious symptoms in her and started treatment of her as a suspected patient of swine flu.
Bathinda civil surgeon Tejwant Singh Randhawa said the medical team had collected sample and sent them for SWAB test. “The reports will come on Thursday,” he said.
District epidemiologist Rajpal Singh said the patient was referred to Faridkot as the guardians of the patients wanted to go there.
Rajpal Singh said they had complete stock of medicine for swine flu at every block-level health centre. He told that swine flu was a curable disease and appealed to the people to not to make it a bugbear. He advised people to keep one metre distance from the person suffering with cold and cough.
He added that it mostly affected those who have low immune power. “Children below 2.5 years of age, old people of age more than 65, pregnant ladies are susceptible to catch swine flu,” he said.
Rajpal Singh said a team of health department surveyed the Jhumba village and other points of suspicion, but did not find any infectious element of swine flu.
