While interacting with mediapersons after disbursing a grant of Rs 17 lakh to Kotla Tarkhana village for development purposes, Majithia held the Congress and the Gandhi family responsible for the construction of SYL canal. He said, “The Gandhi family has always showed indifferent attitude to Punjab and now Rahul Gandhi should explain his stand over the SYL issue. After independence, Punjab has suffered a lot due to anti Punjab stand taken by the Congress.”

Majithia said Punjab should be given its right as per the Riparian Principle to avert further fracas over the issue. Majithia also accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal for his ‘double standard statements’. He said AAP chief strongly advocated the state’s water right when he was in Punjab, but after entering New Delhi, he opted to politicise the issue, which exposed his real face.

He said, “Punjabis will teach a lesson to political opportunist Kejriwal in 2017 as they have understood his political gimmicks.”

Lauding the decision taken by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Majithia said with this landmark decision, the chief minister has got a resolution passed, which would provide the possessions on around 4,000 acres SYL land to farmers free of cost. Majithia said, “Punjab does not have even a single drop of water to spare and it will take every possible step to save its waters.”

‘Rahul Gandhi defaming Punjab’

Referring to a query regarding Rahul Gandhi’s take over drug abuse in Punjab, Majithia said the Congress vice-president was all out to defame the state by dubbing Punjabis as drug addicts. He said Rahul had failed to furnish a single study in this regard.

“The reality is that Punjab has done commendable job to eliminate the menace of drugs. People of Punjab will give a befitting reply to Rahul Gandhi against his misleading propaganda in the time to come,” said Majithia.

Earlier, Majithia also presided over the 26th sports tournament at Mann village, where he gave away the prizes to winners and runners up team in football.
